The Reckoning, Part II
It was an entire hour and a half later before the party was fully under way and my living room was full of grown folks drinking brown liquor, gossiping, and dancing in corners.
“I guess you know how to throw a party,” Tonya said to me as she wrapped her arm around my waist and casually sipped a glass of Merlot. “I see that you also bought cheap wine,” she said with a grimace as she put her wineglass down on a nearby end table. I rolled my eyes at her, picked up her glass, and swallowed the wine myself–it was cheap tasting.
“Whatever, I already spent a couple of hundred bucks on all of the brown liquor and vodka your alcoholic ass could desire. Where is Kyle?”
“He said that he’d be here in about fifteen minutes.”
“Thats good, I really want him to meet Derrick. I think that he’ll really like Derrick.”
“Who wouldn’t?” Tonya asked incredulously. “I definitely am team lesbian, but that is one tall glass of chocolate milk you got. You showed us the pictures but they did not do him justice at all.”
“That tall glass of chocolate milk is going to put it on me tonight,” I whispered to Tonya as I glanced over at Derrick who was in the corner chatting with one of my work colleagues.
“All you guys ever do is have sex–at least thats what I’ve ascertained from our conversations about him,” Tonya replied as she rolled her eyes at me. The doorbell rang before I could respond, so i pushed my way through a crowd of half-drunk people to get to it as quickly as possible. It was Kyle.
“Praise Bey’s holy name–Kyle is here,” Kyle declared flamboyantly as he placed his hands on both hips. Kyle’s eyes gleamed and I could tell that he’d already started drinking before the party had even started. “Are you going to let me in bitch? I am here to meet your man after all.”
